Do you have a passion for empowering youth in their academic and professional endeavors? Are you a college student looking to gain experience working with underprivileged populations? Do you want to help the largest Muslim Social Services organization in Ohio in its vision for the future? MY Project USA’s mentorship program Under MY Wing is looking for several college students to serve as mentors for refugee and immigrant high school students in our new Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center, located at 3275 Sullivant Ave, Columbus, Ohio.

As a mentor, you will share with mentees career guidance, especially in fields promoting diversity and contribute to positive social change, as well as your experience pursuing higher education. We aim to prepare immigrant and refugee high school students from the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio to pursue higher education and a fulfilling career.

Responsibilities:

  • Support high school students from immigrant and refugee backgrounds
  • Utilize our prepared curriculum to provide college and career guidance for high school mentees
  • Completing brief administrative tasks following the end of mentoring sessions

Requirements:

  • Available to commit 3-4 hours/week to this role
  • Enrolled in college or university
  • Reliable transportation to/from the Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center
  • Desire to work with high school youth from underprivileged populations
  • Desire to further the mission of MY Project USA: To protect and empower American youth
  • Resume and cover letter expressing interest

Desired:

  • Experience working with high school youth
  • Experience in pre-college mentorship and career counseling
  • Individuals with immigrant and/or refugee backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply

Requires background check and drug test as you will be working with individuals under the age of 18. MY Project USA will reimburse applicants for a clear result on these checks.

We strengthen abused, neglected, and under-served communities and get the very best out of them through social services and civic engagement. We are the largest Muslim Social Services Organization in Ohio.
