ORGANIZATION: Bethany Christian Services
Please visit the new page to apply.
We are looking for a male, Spanish-speaking volunteer to mentor a 17-year-old youth from Honduras in our refugee foster care program. He has been in the United States since September of 2019. He spent his first years in one of our residential group homes and now lives in our Semi-Independent Living Plus group home with five other youth on the southwest side of Grand Rapids (Wyoming).
In his mentoring survey, this youth shared that he is more quite than talkative. He prefers to go out and do new things instead of stay at home. Activities he enjoys include playing soccer, roller blading, and going to the city. He shared that he enjoys trying new activities and there's really nothing he doesn't like. He is currently interested in a lawyer, social worker, or a basketball player. Mentoring activities he is interested in include exploring the city, learning new skills, playing sports, playing video games, watching movies, cooking, going to museums/concerts, art, and learning more about college and career.

Description
For refugees fleeing danger, the search for safety can be extremely challenging. And too often, people become numbers in a system that can feel impossible to navigate. That’s why we guide, protect, advocate for, and support refugees. In the U.S., we offer resettlement and continued support services in strategic locations.
Bethany Christian Services' Refugee and Immigrant Services program encompasses adult and family resettlement as well as refugee foster care for Unaccompanied Children and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. Our services for unaccompanied refugee youth include case management, counseling, housing (foster homes, group homes, independent living), classes (New Arrival, Life Skills, driver's training), and volunteer mentoring and tutoring.
