Are you a firm believer in the value of education? Have you or anyone you know been saddled with student debt? Regardless, consider joining an amazing new program designed specifically to help New Yorkers navigate the complex student loan system and generally improve their financial health.
As an Ambassador, spread awareness of the program’s services in your community and surrounding ones by giving free, informative presentations and making connections with local community-based organizations (ie. job training programs and libraries).
Or, as a Counselor, be trained to work directly with clients to resolve student debt-related issues. In this capacity, answer live helpline calls, conduct intake, and provide one-on-one counseling sessions.
Qualified individuals must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills; complete an interview; provide two references; complete an 8 to 16-hour training series (via recorded webinar during the pandemic); and pass a final exam. For now, service is entirely remote, though is eventually expected to transition to in-person.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
