ORGANIZATION: ASIAN COMMUNITY & CULTURAL CENTER

Our High School After School Clubs are a great way for immigrant and refugee youth to get one-on-one help with homework, build relationships with their peers, and have a safe space to share their culture and ideas. Volunteers are needed to provide assistance with homework, build relationships with students, and be a friendly face for them to look forward to after school. These programs will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3-5pm at North Star and Lincoln High schools. Volunteers should specify which day of the week they would like to volunteer and how many hours they would like to volunteer.

Mission Statement

To support and empower ALL immigrants and refugees through our programs and services and advance the sharing of Asian and other cultural heritage with the community at large.

Description

In 1992, organization began for the Asian Community and Cultural Center. Leaders in the community from multiple Asian backgrounds joined together, initially meeting in one another’s homes, to envision what the ACCC could become. They wanted to create a community space for education, welfare, recreation, and fellowship, to connect and share cultural heritage and promote the well-being of their peoples. They imagined that the Center would serve both long-term and recently arrived immigrants and refugees from Asian countries as well as native-born Asian Americans. These leaders joined forces with the Lincoln Interfaith Council which was providing support for recently arrived Vietnamese refugees. On October 1, 1994, the Center opened its doors at 140 S. 27th Street with bi-lingual Vietnamese speaking staff. In March 1998, ACCC became a 501 (C) (3) and has enjoyed broad community financial support. Starting in 2006 the ACCC served as a hub for all recently arrived refugee communities in Lincoln. Now after over 25 years of service, many immigrants and refugees still see the Asian Center as "home" regardless of ethnic background and national origin.
