The mission of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is to empower, educate and assist Medicare-eligible individuals, their families and caregivers through objective outreach, counseling, and training to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits.

SHIP Volunteer Description:

  • Desire to help Seniors - Service and Detailed Oriented, Friendly and Helpful.
  • Long-term commitment in training, developing skills and knowledge to help seniors with Medicare.
  • Provide objective assistance on cost, convenience and coverage on Medicare, prescriptions and related health insurance.
  • Willingness to learn, with 18 hours of initial training, be trained and skilled in helping seniors with their Medicare and related insurance questions.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Southeast Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability (SETAAAD) is to help older adults live with dignity and choices in their homes and communities. SETAAAD provides programs and services to adults with disabilities and seniors and their families living in Bledsoe, Bradley, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea and Sequatchie counties.


The goal of SETAAAD is to advocate for and to strive to achieve a system of services that allows older persons and persons with disabilities the opportunity for an independent and productive lifespan. This is accomplished through three primary areas of emphasis: Advocacy, Service, and Planning. SETAAAD has a variety of volunteer supported programs including:

Home Delivered Meals Services(Meal of Wheels) provides hot meals to people’s homes. Meals on Wheels is more than just a meal, it is a vital lifeline for our Seniors.

MyRide TN Southeast provides volunteer assisted transportation to essential appointments for adults 60 and older who can walk independently or with a walker or cane.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides information, assistance, and counseling about Medicare insurance.

These programs are volunteer supported and provides vital services to enhance the quality of life of adults 60 and older and adults with disabilities in our communities.
