TeleSocial Call Program

Save to Favorites

L.A. Works

Quick Overview: TeleSocial is a program that connects volunteers to call recipients through weekly social phone calls. These weekly social calls help combat loneliness and isolation amongst our community's most vulnerable, yet resilient, members. If you'd like to be a volunteer who makes calls, please keep reading. If you'd like to receive calls, please go to laworks.com/telesocial to sign up to become a call recipient.

Impact: In response to the COVID-19 crisis, L.A. Works has launched the TeleSocial Program to help keep social distancing from becoming social isolation for vulnerable homebound individuals who are at the highest risk for both the coronavirus and the resulting loneliness from self-quarantine.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: You will be paired with at least one call recipient who you will place a friendly call once or twice a week to check-in, listen, and just chat. It will be up to you and your recipient to determine how long your conversations will be. The calls will be strictly social - meaning they will be about common interests, hobbies, and the ongoing crisis - with any problems that may arise, you will be directed to refer to an L.A. Works staff member. Each volunteer caller will receive training from L.A. Works staff before calls are to begin.

Requirements: Volunteers must pass training before being matched. Volunteers must agree not to share advice of any kind during the call. Volunteers must agree to make these social calls every week.

Language: *SPANISH SPEAKERS NEEDED* The TeleSocial Program is in dire need of Spanish-speaking volunteers. If you speak Spanish or know of someone who might be interested in this opportunity, please send them this link. If you speak other languages, we highly encourage you to volunteer as well, as our pool of call recipients continues to grow and diversify with different referring partners.
