Home Delivery Drivers

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Alameda County Community Food Bank

Alameda County Community Food Bank is looking for volunteer home delivery drivers! We are seeking volunteers (ages 18+) who can commit to joining us at least once a week for at least 4 weeks. All deliveries are contactless. Volunteer drivers pick up food from the Food Bank, choose from the available routes, and then deliver nutritious food boxes to the community.

Volunteers with SUVs or trucks are in high need!

All volunteers will be required to:

  • Complete a daily health survey addressing areas including but not limited to symptoms, social distancing, and travel.
  • Adhere to distancing guidelines.
  • Wear self-provided face coverings that meet CDC standards.

Due to the work involved in our emergency response, we ask that volunteers are able to:

  • Lift 30-pound boxes without risk of injury.

What does a volunteer driver do?

  • First time volunteer drivers will arrive at the Food Bank and receive a 30 minute orientation, complete their COVID questionnaire, and sign their volunteer waiver.
  • Volunteers then choose a route that varies by city or number of stops.
  • Volunteers will meet under the tent in the back parking for all activities and to load their vehicles.
  • All the deliveries are CONTACTLESS. Clients are asked to not interact with drivers. Deliveries should be left on the doorstep of the client.
  • Volunteers will then call or text clients to let them know their delivery has been made.
  • Once routes are complete, volunteers will:
  • Contact the ACCFB staff member to let them know their route has been complete, and provide any feedback.
  • Either shred their client list, or return it to the Food Bank.

COVID-19 safety guidelines will be enforced as follows:

  • DO NOT come on-site if you're experiencing any signs of illness, even if you think it's not COVID-19. Stay home.
  • You'll need to provide your own face covering (multi-layered masks are preferred) to be worn at all times when on-site except while eating and drinking. Masks with valves aren't allowed.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others at all times.
  • All volunteers will complete a health screening (including a temperature check) at the start of each day confirming: no pending COVID-19 test results, no symptoms, no violation of the County's shelter-in-place order, and your understanding and agreement to follow our safety guidelines.
