ORGANIZATION: West Houston Assistance Ministries

WHAM, in partnership with Bonding Against Adversity, is preparing to provide Citizenship Classes for individuals who meet US citizenship requirements. The classes are contingent on receiving funding from the Mayor's Office of Adult Literacy.

Following is a general description of the requirements to be considered for a volunteer citizenship preparation class position:

For English instruction:

  • Required
    • High school graduate
    • Fluent in English
    • Committed to completing the entire cycle of classes
    • Attend 4 hours of instructor training
  • Desired
    • Associate or bachelor’s degree
    • Prior experience teaching adults
    • English - Spanish multilingual
    • Prior to the commencement of planned classes, volunteers must be available to attend/monitor at least one session of one of Bonding’s current citizenship preparation classes being conducted in English

For Spanish instruction:

  • Required
    • High school graduate
    • Fluent in Spanish
    • Conversation capable in English
    • Committed to completing the entire cycle of classes
    • Attend 4 hours of instructor training
  • Desired
    • Associate or bachelor’s degree
    • Prior experience teaching adults
    • Spanish-English multilingual
    • Prior to the commencement of planned classes, volunteers must be available to attend/monitor at least one session of one of Bonding’s current citizenship preparation classes being conducted in Spanish
