Atlanta Angels believes that not everyone is called to foster or adopt, but everyone can make a difference in a child's life. One way you can make an impact is through our Dare to Dream program. The Dare to Dream program focuses on one-on-one mentoring for youth (ages 11-22) who are in foster care, at-risk to age out, or have aged-out. Mentors serve as positive role models who meet with their youth to build relationships and empower them to accomplish their goals. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to provide youth who are in or have aged out of care with the one-on-one support they need to feel safe, capable, and loved.

This program requires a one-year commitment, with meetings twice a month with your mentee.

We are currently seeking specific mentors to be matched with youth on our waitlist! We are specifically looking for volunteers in or around the Dallas area. This 13 y/o youth has been recently adopted with his siblings and is an excellent, avid reader, a Harry Potter fanatic, loves to talk and is very curious about everything he can make conversation. He also loves any hands-on activities like leggos, puzzles, arts and crafts. He is not a very athletic person but enjoys baseball for the fun of it! This youth's specialty is baking-- he hopes to own his own food truck or a food park one day. He struggles with peer relationships and social skills where he has difficulties discerning what is appropriate or inappropriate in casual conversations. This has created issues between this youth and his peers at school. A mentor who is equal parts patient, receptive, and affirming of the things that he shares but also direct and honest about social boundaries to help model healthy boundaries and friendship would make a huge impact!

Mission Statement

To walk alongside children in the foster care system, as well as their caretakers, by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building, and mentorship.

Description

Atlanta Angels is a foster care non-profit that was created to help empower children and build sustainable foster homes. We are a community of people that walk alongside foster children and their caretakers by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship. Our solution to the foster care crisis are the Love Box family support program and Dare to Dream youth mentor programs. Our programs utilize a trauma-informed, wrap-around service model that strengthens relationships between foster families, youth in foster care, and bio families. Our volunteers are everyday people who meet practical needs while spending quality time with the whole family building positive community. They are changing the way kids and parents experience the foster care system. At Atlanta Angels we believe in the power of love and the value of friendship and positive role models for kids and youth in foster care. We want to connect people passionate about making a difference in the foster care community to our most vulnerable children and youth who have experienced neglect and abuse and the selfless parents who care for them.
