Japanese Translator (volunteer)

Note : The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work to address climate change. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. A 6 months commitment is preferred. This is a remote-from-home position.

Earth Hero is a global all-volunteer nonprofit organization with users in 153 countries. We exist to make it easy to act on climate change. The climate emergency we currently face requires adequate and immediate action. It is one of the most threatening crises of our time. We are looking for action-oriented individuals who are excited to address climate change. As a startup, we are looking for people who will help build and scale our impact and at the same time are willing to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done! This is an opportunity to be part of an organization where you can have a direct impact, grow your experience, and have the flexibility to fit the role into your life.

Responsibilities

• Improve the Japanese version of the Earth Hero app. It is already available in Japanese, but we could use more help to maintain and improve it.
• Advise on better customizing the Earth Hero app for users in Japan, beyond language updates.
• Help translate the Earth Hero website into Japanese.
• Support making the Japanese app version easier to find by improving search terms so it gets discovered more easily.

Experiences useful in this role

• Fluent in Japanese.
• Current with the latest Japanese-language idioms and cultural references.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Experience using CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) software or open to learning.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule. Roles work best with a minimum commitment of 6 months for 2 - 5 hours a week (or more if you like!). Because our all-volunteer team is spread throughout the world, we rely mostly on a combination of Slack and video calls to communicate.

If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, have strong collaboration skills, enjoy the opportunity to partner with like-minded individuals, and can commit quality time per week to help achieve team goals, we would love to hear from you.
