ORGANIZATION: Camp Good Mourning!

  • Must love working with children, teens and adults while demonstrating compassion and dedication to the physical and emotional well-being of CGM! campers and staff
  • Collaborate and work well with medical team to serve campers and staff
  • Collect and review health forms prior to camp
  • Evaluate and treat campers and staff for minor injuries and illness
  • Collect medications from parents upon arrival at camp
  • Communicate with families should there be an identified sick camper
  • Isolation protocol of sick campers
  • Ensure the implementation of medication policies and procedures for the duration of camp, including:
  • Safeguarding all medications
  • Checking all documentation is correct prior to administration.
  • Ensuring campers have quick accessibility to medication in an emergency
  • Provide supportive health advice to volunteers and other camp staff, if requested.
  • Identify health problems serious enough to require a physician’s attention
  • Prepare to work on call/overnight for campers or staff who may require medical attention or support
  • Liaising with physicians or hospital staff in an emergency situation
  • Must have high standards of health and safety
  • Communicate effectively with camp directors about any camper or staff health concerns
  • Provide a list of medical supplies needed prior to and after camp

  • 1 in 12 American children will experience the death of a parent and/or sibling by the age of 18
  • 92% of educators believe childhood grief is a serious problem that needs more attention from schools

Introducing Camp Good Mourning!, a Huntington, NY-based 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides FREE weekend grief camp programs for Long Island children coping with the death of a parent or sibling.

Camp Good Mourning! takes place in a traditional camp setting with one extra special component - Grief Support Groups. Each support group focuses on a different theme including, but not limited to, sharing one’s grief story, identifying and exploring feelings, identifying healthy as well as unhealthy coping skills, and learning ways to stay connected to loved ones even though they are no longer physically with them.

Camp Good Mourning! takes place at Camp Quinipet on Shelter Island on Long Island, NY.
