ORGANIZATION: SPOKES

One of the ways Spokes guides and supports nonprofit organizations in San Luis Obispo County (CA) by providing advice and counsel from experienced mentors. After orientation, you'll be paired with a nonprofit leader and/or organization that has requested coaching or consultation from someone with your particular skill set and experience. If you like to teach, you might also lead workshops or facilitate roundtables. Although the bulk of our work is done virtually, there may be an occasional opportunity for face-to-face work with a client should the mentor be located locally.

Examples of what you might do:

  • Provide one-on-one leadership coaching to a new executive director or board president.
  • Help a nonprofit plan and then facilitate its annual retreat.
  • Lead a training session in board development.
  • Advise a governance committee on how best to identify and vet potential candidates to join the board.
  • Help a nonprofit develop its website, social media, or digital marketing efforts.
Spokes member organizations span the nonprofit spectrum. Their missions address homelessness, mental health, animal welfare, hunger, youth issues, victims of sexual abuse, protecting the environment, and many more. This is a great opportunity to share what you have learned and to give back to the broader nonprofit community.
