Journalist/Editor Needed at Pivedite Inc.
Pivedite is looking for a Journalist/Editor to manage our journalism program. This is a non-paid position.
This is an excellent opportunity if you want to:
- Volunteer for an organization that wants to end social problems in Philadelphia.
- Communicate your ideas on how to end social problems.
- Work on a new and exciting project for social change.
- Use your journalism skills for social change.
- Help a small nonprofit organization grow
Who are we?
Pivedite is a 501c3 nonprofit journalism organization. Our mission is to inform the Philadelphia Region about pivotal solutions to social problems and to encourage expedited action to end those problems.
Our name was created by combining the words pivotal and expedite, and our tagline is "pivotal solutions expedited."
We launched on February 3, 2020.
What do we do?
The type of journalism we produce is called "solutions journalism." Writers and organizations who produce "solutions journalism" provide the public with answers and solutions to social problems. We report on solutions to 10 social problems in Philadelphia. These problems are listed on our website.
Our content will highlight any news story, idea, opinion, policy, service, organization, individual, or government action that attempts to end these social problems in Philadelphia.
Our content is reported through:
- A Community Journalism Platform that is open to anyone who wants to be a volunteer writer
- Articles from professional writers and our President
- Social media posts
In addition to our content, we are openly challenging the Philadelphia Region to end these 10 problems on a system level or on an individual level.
Duties:
- Answer questions and provide general to support to our writers as they develop their articles
- Review and edit all of our articles
- Post our articles on our website
- Provide updates/edits to our website
- Post content on our social media accounts
- Send emails to our followers about new articles
- Write about issues you are passionate about, if you want
- Develop relationships with community members, our board, and various stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experienced writer, journalist, or student studying journalism/communications
- Experience with WordPress or willingness to learn how to use WordPress (Doesn’t take long to learn the basics of WordPress)
- Experience using multiple social media platforms
- Experience volunteering with nonprofit organizations is nice but not required
- Desire to make social change in Philadelphia and around the country.
- Creativity
