This is an outdoor 126 acre property which follows CDC social distancing guidelines, that presents many opportunities for low risk volunteering.
This Wednesday weekly or second Saturday opportunity is available weekly or monthly and could involve anything from weeding, pruning, hauling, digging, and planting to painting buildings, depending on the group's particular needs.
As it is an outside property, it is particularly well-suited for the times we are in. We provide hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and masks as desired. The volunteers are spaced a minimum of 6 feet apart in an outdoor setting.
Our small but stalwart group of volunteers will be happy to guide you in all things Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

About JACKSONVILLE ARBORETUM & GARDENS INC

Mission Statement
Cultivating a unique environment for recreation, education and inspiration. To provide stewardship of the Arboretum lands by protecting, sustaining, and enhancing biological diversity by means of large tracts of open-space. To provide an outdoor laboratory for use by college faculty and students in Botany, Zoology, Biology, Environmental Studies, and other departments. To provide a place where people from the community may enjoy passive recreation and where they may come to learn, reflect, and renew themselves through contact with the natural world.
Description
The Arboretum is 126 acre, partially ADA accessible "wild-ish" property offering 7 groomed trails of varying difficulties and 13 eco-systems that nature created after strip-mining and illegal dumping. Through the continuing support of volunteers and community organizations, we are able to offer a taste of the "natural world" in the middle of Jacksonville's urban character. There are many different volunteer options from the light-duty weeding and gardening on Wednesday, mornings to the Second Saturday Conservation Corps, and from the monthly educational events to the weekend morning greeters and information booth, there are many things to choose from. We recently won Jax Best for best hiking (3 years in a row) and are in the process of master-planning formal Botanical Gardens.
