LOOKING FOR YOU!

If you are a dedicated person who loves working with kids After-School with Pomona Hope is looking for you! Our After School Program is in need of volunteers who can help kids (grades K-12th) with their homework and guide our kids (K-8) through their various workshops throughout the day. We work with an under-resourced population and love having people from all backgrounds mentor the kids and help them understand other points of view. Please click on the link for additional information: http://www.pomonahope.org/join-us/volunteer/

* Please note that this opportunity is open to local high school students and adults in or nearby the City of Pomona, CA. Please visit our website (www.pomonahope.org) under the "volunteer" tab for more information or to get started with the training.

ABOUT POMONA HOPE

We are a community center in the City of Pomona, California dedicated to forming local partnerships and holistic programs that cultivate meaningful relationships and empower people of all backgrounds, particularly at-promise youth and their families, to work together toward personal and community transformation. Our main program to do this is our after-school program during the regular school year and a summer enrichment program in the summer, where we serve K-12th grade students for free, Monday thru Thursday. At these programs, kids have a strictly structured schedule, where they receive a meal, homework help/study time, and an enrichment workshop.

These workshops may include (depending on age group and day):

  • Gym Games/Dance
  • STEM
  • Garden
  • Art
  • Language Arts Enrichment
  • Reading Groups
  • Bible Study
  • Homework Help

In the summer program, the structure is very similar with the exception of homework help/study time. Instead, kids receive a variety of educational workshops along with fun activities and field trips. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to at least one consistent day per week (Mon, Tues. & Thurs 2:45-5:30 pm & Wed. 1:45 pm-5:30 pm). Volunteer responsibilities consist of assisting kids with homework, projects during their workshops, and other activities offered in the program. We also have opportunities to be workshop leaders if you have a special skill or subject you would like to teach (i.e., STEM, art, dance, etc.). This opportunity gives you experience working with children in an after-school program setting as well as teaching and lesson planning. For high school students, it provides a great community service opportunity.

Requirements to volunteer are:
  1. Watch a volunteer training video, take a quiz based on the video, and fill out a contact/availability form
  2. Complete a live scan (fingerprinting)
  3. Sign and return a volunteer promise
  4. Sign and return a COVID-19 Waiver

* Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, volunteers are required to wear a mask at all times and maintain appropriate social distance. Volunteers are also highly encouraged to be vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to volunteering with Pomona Hope.
