Drivers needed urgently to deliver repurposed meals to Newton Food Pantry on Wednesdays and Brigham Women's Hospital Community Center, JP. Please register at www.foodforfree.org/volunteer or email volunteers@foodforfree.org. We also need packers on Thursdays (3-5pm, 5;30-7:30pm) and Fridays (9-11:30am)

Heat-n-Eats began in 2016 and re-purposes prepared foods into accessible, single-serving meals for people with limited access to kitchens. Meals are created from prepared food rescued from the local university and corporate dining halls, and each single-serve meal includes vegetables, protein, and starch. These tasty and nutritious meals are distributed to individuals and families through partnerships with community colleges, schools, and various types of service agencies.

In addition to registering on VolunteerMatch, you will be required to register on our website and attend a 15 mins orientation call.

About FOOD FOR FREE

Location:

11 INMAN ST, CAMBRIDGE, MA 02139, US

Mission Statement

Good Food, Healthy Communities. We believe access to healthy food is a fundamental right. Our mission is to improve access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and creating new distribution channels to under-served populations with an emphasis on utilizing school systems to reach those in need. We envision a future where everyone in our community - regardless of age, income, or ability - has consistent access to fresh, healthy, delicious food.

Description

Through a combination of food rescue and transportation services, we give food programs year-round access to fresh fruits and vegetables, while our direct service programs bring food to students, seniors, and others most at risk of hunger. Our programs address not only short-term hunger but also the long-term health effects of food insecurity and poor nutrition while reducing food waste. We have over 250 active volunteers who have donated over 10,000 hours since the Pandemic hit. We distributed a total of 4.2 million pounds of Food- reaching thousands of households in Massachusetts

Our current volunteer opportunities include the Just Eats Box Packing Program, Field of Greens and the Home Delivery Program. We offer Weekday and Weekend opportunities and welcome group volunteers.
