We are looking for a volunteer who is willing to meet with this youth for a minimum of one, 1-hour session per week for a school semester. This youth is an 18-year-old from Guatemala who has been in the U.S. since December of 2017 and part of Bethany's program since June of 2020. His case manager shared, "This youth has never had math in school prior to the US or possibly even his current schooling so he needs some really basic skills. He is resistant to tutoring because he doesn’t want to show people how much he struggles."

We are looking for a volunteer who is experienced in Math tutoring and education, specifically at a basic level.

Mission Statement

Bethany demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by protecting children, empowering youth, and strengthening families through quality social services.

Description

For refugees fleeing danger, the search for safety can be extremely challenging. And too often, people become numbers in a system that can feel impossible to navigate. That’s why we guide, protect, advocate for, and support refugees. In the U.S., we offer resettlement and continued support services in strategic locations.

Bethany Christian Services' Refugee and Immigrant Services program encompasses adult and family resettlement as well as refugee foster care for Unaccompanied Children and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. Our services for unaccompanied refugee youth include case management, counseling, housing (foster homes, group homes, independent living), classes (New Arrival, Life Skills, driver's training), and volunteer mentoring and tutoring.
