With so many in need of food due to either their residence located in a "food desert" or the impact of COVID-19 upon a household's income, Project PLASE offers some relief.
Each week, we open our Food Pantry to our clients and the broader community at large. Though it is not very large, it does require regular maintenance as well as serving those who come to our doors seeking assistance.
Food Pantry Volunteers work for the Development Department and assist with the following activities: carrying boxed goods from storage to pantry, stocking shelves, sorting food items, checking for expiration dates, discarding expired items, and maintaining the pantry area clean and organized. In addition, they also provide a "shopping" experience to our clients who are vaccinated and distribute prebagged items to those not yet vaccinated. During this time, data is collected on our laptop to ensure we report to the Maryland Food Bank how much food is distributed weekly.
Our Food Pantry is open Mondays from 1pm to 4pm, and Tuesdays 11am to 1pm. We ask that Volunteers arrive half an hour before we open to help get everything set up. Monday arrival time is 12:30pm and Tuesday arrival time is 10:30am.
We would love your help in directly serving our community in this impactful way. Project PLASE requires proof of your COVID vaccination before you are eligible to volunteer.

Mission Statement
Project PLASE addresses homelessness in Baltimore through our transitional and permanent housing programs coupled with a continuum of housing and services to meet the special physical, mental, and emotional needs of residents. We strive to move individuals from crisis to housing stability by treating, restoring, and rehabilitating the whole person and empowering each individual to function at his or her highest level possible.
Description
The goal of Project PLASE’s transitional housing program is to house and serve homeless citizens in 24-hour supported supervision and case management with a focus on helping the individual function at the highest level.
We provide residents with three meals daily plus snacks, linens, bus tokens, assistance with medical appointments, and clothing as needed - making it easier for residents to focus on getting back on their feet.
Each resident is assigned a counselor for assistance and support. Active case management is given to assist the individual to meet his/her needs, move beyond their crisis situation, and avail him/herself of community based services and resources as appropriate.
