crew to help raise our greenhouse #ClimateActionWeek

ORGANIZATION: Elderberry Wisdom Farm

Elderberry Wisdom Farm has planted a crop of blue elderberry plants and will be working in the rows on Saturday, September 18. This crop is Native to Oregon and will produce berries within two or three years. We will work in the morning removing the invasive plants around the bushes. We will also amend the soil and then plant a cover crop of red clover to add nitrogen to the soil. This will enrich the soil so it can grow a healthier crop of elderberries in future years. We look forward to volunteers who would like to join us to help us as a way to commemorate climate action week.

We also expect to cement our steel supports into the ground in preparation for the construction of our greenhouse. Our afternoon volunteers will help our contractor as he gets the cement poured and puts the steel posts into the ground. The rest of the greenhouse will be constructed two weekends later after the cement has hardened.

Elderberry Wisdom Farm purchased a greenhouse kit for our upcoming Traditional Ecological Knowledge Internship! Our 24' x 48' gable greenhouse has a strong steel structure that we will cement into the ground prior to our work parties so that our crews can get the greenhouse up and running during four weekend shifts on Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3.

This greenhouse is part of the training program for Native American interns participating in the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Workforce Development Project which will be held October through December 2021. This greenhouse will help our Native American interns integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge with Western science so they can accomplish successful career pathways aligned with their own earth-based cultural heritage.

If you are interested in helping us, just sign up and let us know when you can join us over the weekend of October 2-3. Thanks so much for considering this opportunity.
