CaAPSE (californiaapse.org) are a non profit board advocating for employment rights of people with disabilities. We need to make a larger impact, especially since there is a bill in California called SB639 that will end sub minimum wage for people with disabilities. Yes, you heard that right. It is currently legal in the State of California (along with many other states) to pay people as little is $2/hr.

Why we need help? Because there is a ton of resistance to this bill. The agencies that pay people these wages are fighter hard against it. They are having the people they pay $2/hr an hour call their legislatures asking to not pass SB639.

We need help in spreading this message along with other CaAPSE messages that can help us create equity in employment for people with disabilities.

Mission Statement

Vision All people with disabilities have competitive employment in an inclusive workforce. Mission To advance employment equity for people with disabilities. Values We believe that everyone can and should work, and have the dignity of determining their career path.

Description

California APSE is proud to be a voice of the Employment First movement. It’s an honor and responsibility that we take very seriously. Our national office, state chapters and board membership have achieved remarkable accomplishments. Determined to keep the momentum moving forward, the California APSE board of directors considered our complex world and sought to answer: What is the right role for California APSE in building the world we want to see?

With a focus on shared values and confirming California APSE’s commitment to the view that everyone can and should work, the board of directors examined the many ways that California APSE can support policymakers, funders, businesses, families, service providers and people with disabilities in advancing Employment First, the core of our common bond.

Our Vision, Mission, and Values are a clear reflection of California APSE.
