Are you looking for a meaningful, fun way to give back to the community this fall? Volunteer at Washington English Center online or in person!
Washington English Center is a non-profit, community-based organization that prepares volunteer teachers to provide high-quality educational services, access to technology, and life-skills programs to all adult immigrants in the Washington metropolitan area, regardless of ability to pay.
This fall, we are re-introducing in person ESOL classes at our new location at 401 9th St NW c100, Washington, DC 20004. our lease begins on September 15, approximately two weeks before the start of the Fall 2021 term. Until that time, our official mailing address remains: 1717 K Street NW, Suite 900 Washington, DC 20008.
Currently, we are recruiting volunteers for online one-on-one English tutors and online and in person co-teachers. Please see our fall flyer here:

While our students come to class multiple times a week, we ask our volunteers to commit to only one day a week (1-2 hours) during each 11-week term. We provide teachers with a course syllabus and a textbook and use a unique co-teaching method to provide new volunteers with the support they might need throughout the semester. The WEC staff is also always here to support you with hands-on guidance. We have your back every step of the way!
The fall term begins September 27th (and runs through the week of December 16th) . We require all volunteers to be fluent English speakers and at least 18 years old to participate. No teaching experience is necessary. Please note, WEC asks that all volunteers (new and returning) participate in online training prior to their first class.
If interested in teaching in person, please visit our website: https://www.washingtonenglish.org/wecs-return-to-office-faqs/ to view safety measures we will be taking in accordance with the CDC and the DC Department of Health. We will update our FAQs with current information if new guidance is issued.
