All our volunteer opportunities are remote now: we are running virtual clinics in Housing, Family Law & Guardianship, Consumer, and Civil Appeals. We also offer telephonic advice panels in Family Law, Housing, Wills/Estates, and Employment. Our call center will screen the clients first, and then VLP will send you some info about the client and their case. You call the client back to provide some advice.
In a similar vein, we have a partnership with another organization that runs an online advice opportunity called Mass Legal Answers Online. Volunteers answer questions for clients online and do get three days to answer a question. Volunteers get plenty of time to do legal research!
We are still referring out full representation cases as well. With these cases, volunteer attorneys would accept the case as their own, and our staff attorneys will be available to provide guidance and mentorship. We will do all the initial work by getting the client and opposing party's info, case documents, and writing a referral memo. Then we provide the volunteer attorney with the information we have. We refer out cases in the areas of Housing, Family, Guardianship, Consumer, Bankruptcy, Wage Theft, Unemployment Insurance, Wills, and 209A Restraining Orders.

Mission Statement
To increase access to justice by delivering high quality pro bono civil legal services to eligible clients in the Greater Boston area.
Description
Quality Representation for Those in Need : For more than 40 years the Volunteer Lawyers Project has been dedicated to serving families and individuals in the Greater Boston Area from lower income households. We represent US citizens, green card holders, and certain legal immigrants. We strive to give equal access to justice, representing and assisting clients in civil law cases as outlined below. Even if a client does not qualify for our services, we do our very best to provide referrals to others who may help. Please understand that representation may be restricted due to the scope of our funding. We do not handle personal injury cases, criminal cases, or represent prisoners on any legal matters.
