Help connect the homeless to vital services - Star Project expansion!
The Star Project is a simple, but effective model: Local businesses and individuals sponsor a bulletin board. The bulletin boards are then placed in local restaurants, delis, pizza shops, and other eateries who are participating partners in the project. When patrons come in to purchase food at these eateries they are given the option to buy a food item for someone in need. If they purchase a food item, they write a personalized message on a sticky note and post it on the bulletin board. People who are in need can then take the sticky note down, read the message on it, and redeem it for the food item purchased (a slice of pizza or a bagel for example).
In addition to the meal, the staff at the participating eatery also agrees to keep printed materials of local resources that can be of help to the person in need (substance use outreach programs, shelters, warming stations, food pantries, etc...). It costs the restaurant or eatery nothing to participate in The Star Project. Individual members of the community support other members of the community by paying it forward and purchasing a meal, local programs and service organizations play their part simply by providing materials for distribution, and eateries act as a conduit for support. All parties act as a link in the chain of support to reach those members of our community who are most in need.
This is a 100% volunteer run program. We are in need of volunteers to go out and establish partner eateries in the Hudson Valley area. Bulletin boards and supplies will be given to volunteers who establish partnerships with eateries. We are also in need of sponsorships from other businesses and corporate partners to sponsor bulleting boards to go up at partner eateries.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About INDIVIDUALS MAKING POSITIVE ADVANCEMENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES
120 SOUTH ST, NEWBURGH, NY 12550, US
Our vision The Vision of IMPACT!, Inc. is a society in which all individuals recognize the potential for their own impact within their community, feel responsible for the greater good of society, and strive to be an agent for positive change by volunteering their time and talents toward a cause or causes that they believe in. Our mission The Mission of IMPACT!, Inc. is to increase civic participation in impoverished communities, encouraging engaged citizenship and civic responsibility through volunteering and service-learning.
IMPACT!, Inc. addresses localized community needs by recruiting volunteers to meet those needs and offering each individual direction on how they may best serve that cause. We connect people with other grass-roots groups and nonprofits that are already working on an issue that resonates with them, we have a number of internal programs where we utilize volunteers to address a specific issue in their community, and we offer fiscal sponsorship to groups of people who do good work in their community to address a need, but do not have the time or knowledge to start a nonprofit organization on their own. We offer training and support to these groups to prepare them for branching out on their own and becoming an independent entity.
