ORGANIZATION: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP - Cache & Rich Counties

If you are **age 55 and older,** you are needed to visit an older adult who has a dementia-related condition while their caregiver gets a break from their duties. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PERFORM ANY MEDICAL OR PERSONAL CARE. Simply being there to spend time playing a game, singing together, reading a book, or just chatting is a wonderful way to make a new friend and give the caregiver some time for their own mental health.

You are expected to:

-Make an in-person visit on a regular basis (whenever works best for you)

-Be friendly

-Be a good listener

-Keep in touch with the caregiver

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers must pass a criminal history background check and attend an orientation before beginning service. They are then matched with a household in the community to visit on a regular basis. Service time is flexible, with an hour per month minimum.

For more information, please contact Hannah, the RSVP Director!

Mission Statement

Combating senior loneliness, isolation, and hunger one volunteer at a time!

Description

RSVP of Cache & Rich Counties connects retired volunteers 55 and older to homebound, disabled, and lonely older adults and to family caregivers. We provide companionship phone calls, respite services, online caregiver tips, COVID-19 grocery delivery, and fidget quilts for people with cognitive impairment/dementia.

We only require our volunteers to serve an hour a week, with flexibility in schedules! We have kept volunteers engaged during COVID, making service accessible in their own homes.

AmeriCorps Seniors funds our program, and we are connected with Sunshine Terrace Foundation. We love to serve the community and keep our older adults engaged, happy, and fulfilled.
