Bascom Branch Library is recruiting for volunteers starting in February 2022! We are looking for engaging, patient, and knowledgeable tech volunteers to teach coding programs to children. We are especially interested in programs that deal with Girls Who Code, or introducing youngsters to game design apps like MIT App Inventor; however, we are also seeking volunteers to teach other coding/programs such as JAVA and Python, among others. Volunteers ages 18 and up most submit a background check which is performed free, by the city. Volunteers must be proficient in using Zoom technology (the library will use their own Pro Zoom account). Scan the above QR code to sign up! Volunteers will also need to verify COVID-19 vaccination and those who are ages 8 and over must get fingerprinted at San Jose City Hall.
As part of San Jose Public Library's Education and Digital Literacy Strategy (EDL), the library is committed to reaching those communities which are severely impacted due to economic and other barriers. With over 95K San Jose residents lacking internet connectivity, we aim to bridge the digital divide by offering an array of free, high-quality, digital educational content to our community members.
