The Tuscaloosa SAFE Center is a community-based, collaborative agency designed to meet the emotional, medical, and forensic needs of sexual assault survivors by providing quality medical care including assessment, treatment, forensic examination, and follow-up. We work with community resource advocates, law enforcement and other service providers to meet the needs of sexual assault survivors. When necessary, we provide expert testimony if the patient chooses to seek justice.

Medical advocates are the backbone of our organization. As an advocate, you would be on call for four 8 hour shifts a month. If you were called in, you would accompany the survivor during a forensic medical exam and provide emotional support. You would explain the process of reporting, if they so choose, and help them create a safety plan.
