We invite Volunteers, Students and Scout Groups to Join our Tree Maintenance Day. We planted 100+ of native food producing species at the arboretum last year (american chestnut, persimmons, elderberry, hazelnut) and we are looking for help to upgrade tree shelters and stakes.

The day will also include educational talks about the history and importance of the American Chestnut Tree and Native Food-Producing Trees of the northeastern woodlands.

This event is part of the American Chestnut Tree Revival Project: www.antinanco.org/american-chestnut-trees and Native Food Forest Restoration Project: www.antinanco.org/foodforest

Mission Statement

Antinanco Earth Arts School is a coalition of teachers and community leaders committed to preserving traditional and indigenous knowledge, and providing public access to education beyond the classroom walls through nature experiences, hands-on projects, international cultural exchange programs and environmental conservation projects. We teach practical earth-based skills, arts, mindfulness, arts, non-conflict resolution, emotional empowerment and team building. We provide and promote all types of education about the Earth, its inhabitants and ecosystems, educating about the impact of our actions on the surrounding environment. We support local and indigenous communities through education and direct relief, both financial and in-kind.

Description

Our Key Programs:

  • Support of Native American Communities through crisis relief and educational programs;
  • Nature Skills, Building and Community Service Programs for Children and Adults. The Program commenced with two one-day clinics in 2015. Currently, we offer 20 domestic and 6 international programs annually, catering to about 500 children per year;
  • Solar Energy Projects and Education. Since inception, we have been involved in a number of community projects providing expertise and hands-on assistance with transforming boats, vans and pop-up campers into off-grid platforms with solar panels and rain-water collection systems.
  • We also provide education clean energy sources, helping to develop understanding on how to formulate needs and set priorities, address safety issues and learn basics of electricity and solar energy;
  • Bring Back the American Chestnut Tree Project. We planted our first 25 American Chestnut trees in Emmaus, PA in 2018, and 82 more trees in Mt. Olive, NJ and Bangor, PA in 2019. Our goal is to work continuously on restoring the American Chestnut species to its native range and restore the specific function provided by the tree to the East Coast ecosystems that evolved with it. We hold children’s education around this Project encouraging them to plant trees and record their observations. We are hoping to plant at least 50 additional trees in 2020.
