Position Summary: Weed Warriors support OMSI’s sustainability goals by creating a welcoming and healthy environment for humans, animals and plants around the museum campus. Volunteers who are comfortable working with their hands in the dirt and who find satisfaction in a well-maintained garden will enjoy this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean planter beds and bioswales as part of the overall landscape plan
• Identify and remove invasive plants or weeds
• Support seasonal projects, such as planting or raking, following environmentally-friendly practices
• Coordinate with Facilities team on identifying weekly focus areas

Knowledge and Skills:

• Passion for environmental-friendly practices in outdoor planter beds
• Familiarity with identifying invasive plants
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Able to sit, stand, and kneel for 2 of 4 hours outdoors
• Able to push and pull 50 pounds
• Able to lift and carry 4 to 6 pounds
• Dependable and punctual
• Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures

Schedule and Support:

• Recurring Schedule: 4 to 16 hours per month on Mondays

• Equipment such as tools, gloves, PPE and buckets will be provided
• Breaks as needed depending on outside weather conditions

• Volunteer Orientation

• COVID-19 Safety Training
• Area-specific Emergency Protocols
• Facilities property orientation and duties preview
