Connect offers free and completely remote college application essay tutoring to students from predominantly low-income backgrounds.

  • Connect Tutors has already reached hundreds of students in Providence Public Schools (RI) and Lowell Public Schools (MA)
  • Given the growing number of districts and high schools we serve, Connect is in need of volunteers with strong writing skills, an understanding of college admissions process, and a commitment to Connect’s mission.
  • Too often in the past, access to decent college application tutoring has been possible only for students from higher-income families, so Connect is an attempt to begin to equalize that access.
As a tutor, you choose how many students you take on and how many hours you commit with a minimum of 1 hour a week.

Mission Statement

We strive to equalize access to higher education by providing effective, personalized, and entirely remote college application essay tutoring to students from predominantly low-income backgrounds.

Description

Connect Tutors is an entirely remote tutoring program providing high school students with access to free and high quality college application essay tutoring.

  • With more and more colleges placing an emphasis on personal essays in the application process, we work to ensure that a student’s financial circumstances play no role in their ability to access college essay support and tell their stories effectively.
  • We pair students from predominantly low-income backgrounds with our team of over 80 volunteer tutors.
  • Our use of remote services aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to apply to college with a complete essay that is truly representative of their work.
