Who We Are
Ignite!’s mission is to ensure every child receives coherent foundational reading skills instruction
grounded in the science of reading when they are in kindergarten and first grade so that every
possible educational and life opportunity is available to them.

The Role
Ignite! Reading Tutors commit to becoming highly proficient reading teachers who meet 1:1 with
children via Zoom for 15 min/day, 5 days/week.

Ignite! Reading Tutors

- Make a semester-long commitment to teaching children ages 5-8 to learn to read
- Receive over 100 hours of paid training, development, and coaching in the Science of Reading and a research-based foundational skills curriculum
- Tutor the cutest kids ever via Zoom
- Build caring relationships with kids and lasting friendships with tutors
- Have an opportunity to jumpstart their careers as elementary school teachers, reading
teachers, or literacy coaches

Tutor Responsibilities

- Show up on time and prepared each day for all sessions
- Tutor 4-6 students, implementing the Ignite! curriculum proficiently and with complete fidelity
- Accept and immediately implement all feedback from Literacy Specialists
- Maintain daily records such as lesson trackers, exit tickets, and other administrative
components of Ignite!
- Submit performance evaluations and other weekly deliverables on time
- Model and reinforce the values and culture of Ignite! when engaging with Ignite! staff,
other tutors, families, and students

Job Qualifications

- High level of attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Zoom, including screen sharing and annotation tools
- Proficiency with Google Suite, including Google Sheets
- Ability to attend all upfront training and commit to the full semester of the program
- Computer with working camera and audio; broadband wifi
- Openness to learning and commitment to implementing feedback in real-time to get
better on behalf of the children we serve
