ORGANIZATION: Opera NOVA

Yellow Text

Arlington County has had its own opera company since 1962. Originally Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia (OTNV), later Opera NOVA, a non-profit organization run completely by volunteers and dedicated to making opera and classical music universally accessible and affordable for all from ages 4 to 101 years.

After the negative impact of living under the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s time for a new beginning with volunteers who believe in Opera NOVA’s mission to pass on to all the rich musical heritage given to us. We lost several of our volunteers during COVID-19. Some to sickness, others to anxiety and depression. We need volunteers at various levels - from Administrative Assistants to Grantwriters. We give high marks to anyone who joins with their heart and spirit - candidates proficient in MS Office, with good verbal and written communication abilities, candidates who know themselves to be creative, organized, and can offer four hours per week at home or attending zoom meetings or occasional in person meetings. Please send an email to the Opera NOVA office at operanovaoffice@gmail.com or call us at (703) 536-7557.

About Opera NOVA

Location:

PO Box 7057, Arlington, VA 22207, US

Mission Statement

Opera NOVA works to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

Description

Opera NOVA was founded in 1992 as a volunteer-based, non-profit charitable organization to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

The Guild is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has been recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) entity.

Over the years, Opera NOVA has offered major financial support for an annual family opera that is attended by school children during week day performances and by children with their families and community-based organizations on weekends. Because of our efforts, 50,000 school-aged children, many of whom would not have the opportunity otherwise, have attended an opera. The performances not only offer children a unique opportunity to hear an opera sung in English, but they also learn about various opera and theatre techniques, from special effects to the intricacies of set and lighting design.
