Digital Literacy Assistant (In-person program)

Position Overview:
Help customers increase digital literacy skills by teaching them skills that enable them to independently use computers, digital devices, and online resources in order to become self sufficient learners.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one instruction on an assortment of computer applications and operations including Microsoft Word and Google Apps (Forms, Sheets, Google Drive, Google Meet), setting up an email account, applying for a library card, Zoom, how to place library materials on hold, searching the Internet, connecting to Wi-Fi (hotspots), find and register for SJPL programs/classes as ELL, citizenship, and using the library’s eResources/databases
- Communicate with staff regularly about this service

Training/Support Available:
- Orientation to the Library
- Training on the library’s public computers, related equipment, and eResources
- Ongoing support provided by a designated staff member
Qualifications:
- Age 15 or older
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Google Apps (Forms, Sheets, Google Drive, Google Meet)
- Ability to search the Internet and set up an email account
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a range of computer abilities
- Patience
- Bilingual is desired (Spanish), but not required
- Fingerprint clearance required for volunteers age 18 and over
Commitment:
- Minimum 6 month commitment requested.
- Willingness to be available at regularly scheduled times, for at least 2 hours a week

Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions.
