The Cascade P-Patch has a system of rain barrels to conserve water. We need to repair the system. That means connecting the barrels, adding a solar panel and a pump, plus securing the system. If you can handle a hammer, that's enough.

If you have experience in covering ground with chicken wire or cement, even better. Maybe you even know how to attach a spigot.

This would be a great project for a group of friends, or an office to do together. We are open to new ideas as well.

Thank you for helping to rebuild our rain collection program and demonstration.

About Cascade Patch Community Garden

Location:

Thomas & Minor, Seattle, WA 98109, US

Mission Statement

We are one of 88 Community Gardens run by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. We have created an urban oasis in the middle of South Lake Union for individuals to produce healthy food, interact, build community and provide recreational opportunities.

Description

Each gardener leases a small plot from the city for their own use and puts in extra time to maintain the entire garden and community areas. If you are interested in your own plot search for Seattle P-Patch on the Internet.

We need additional volunteers to help maintain the food we raise for the food banks, and for the common areas. It's a quiet place to have lunch, or where some friends meet for tai chi, and an escape from concrete boxes nearby. Your help is needed to keep up this public garden, demonstrate good land use, prevent run-off, and provide habitat for native bees and songbirds.

Check out our monthly work parties as listed on the shed, or let us coordinate a day for your group.
