Social Media Manager (Volunteer)

Note : The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work to address climate change. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. A 6 months commitment is preferred. This is a remote-from-home position.

Do you have experience with social media? Do you want to make a difference in the climate crisis? Do you want to learn the ins and outs of a global organization in an interesting environment? Earth Hero is a global all-volunteer nonprofit organization with users in 153 countries. We exist to make it easy to act on climate change. The climate emergency we currently face requires adequate and immediate action. It is one of the most threatening crises of our time. We are looking for action-oriented individuals who are excited to address climate change. As a startup, we are looking for people who will help build and scale our impact and at the same time are willing to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done! This is an opportunity to be part of an organization where you can have a direct impact, grow your experience, and have the flexibility to fit the role into your life.

Responsibilities

• Develop quality content for the 25,000 followers of the Earth Hero social media platforms in order to spread positive messages, improve lives, and help people act on the climate crisis.
• Create a plan and implement it to post content on a regular basis.
• Positively engage with individuals who comment and interact on social media.
• Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news), while collaborating with other Earth Hero volunteers to do so.
• Share up-to-date information related to climate change and ways to address it.
• Grow followers for the accounts in order to increase the reach of positive messages.
• Improve social media accounts’ design (e.g. timeline cover and profile pictures).
• Adhere the rules and regulations of social media platforms.
• Oversee the social online communities to ensure respectful and appropriate engagement.

Experiences useful in this role

• Familiar with Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tiktok, and LinkedIn.
• Ability to take initiative, learn new things, and apply them.
• Good communication skills, time management, and attention to detail are key attributes in this role
• Ability to establish trust and confidence by demonstrating a high level of credibility and integrity.
• Ability to develop visual content, like photographs or video, is a plus.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule. Roles work best with a minimum commitment of 6 months for 7 - 10 hours a week (or more if you like!). Because our all-volunteer team is spread throughout the world, we rely mostly on a combination of Slack and video calls to communicate.

If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, have strong collaboration skills, enjoy the opportunity to partner with like-minded individuals, and can commit quality time per week to help achieve team goals, we would love to hear from you.
