Raise, Enrich, or Foster Service Puppies and Dogs in Training

Save to Favorites

NOTE: We are currently seeking puppy raisers throughout Colorado and nationwide! We have satellite raiser locations already established in Texas, Utah, Michigan, and Florida! If you live outside these areas, please contact us as we are constantly looking to expand our puppy raising program.

Our puppies range from 2 to 4 months old, with some already housetrained and crate trained, and others needing instruction in those areas. As a puppy raiser, you’ll supply love, basic obedience training, and socialization. FSD will provide special training, both online and in-person, using social distancing and other protocols designed with your safety and well-being in mind. You will also receive continuous guidance and ongoing support from FSD staff and fellow puppy raisers, as well as supplies.

NEW! We are now offering the option to co-raise a puppy so you can share your puppy raising responsibilities with an approved and trained friend, family member, or neighbor who wants to help out.

As a weekend foster for FSD, you will bring an adult dog in training into your home for the weekend, typically from Friday evening until Monday morning. This provides our dogs with some much-needed relaxation and time away from our kennels. It also helps our trainers learn what behaviors the dog presents in a home environment so they can work on those behaviors and ultimately determine what type of home the dog will succeed in when matched with an FSD client.

Unable to have a puppy or adult dog at home? No problem. We have plenty of onsite volunteer opportunities to fulfill your dog needs.

Mission Statement

At Freedom Service Dogs, we unleash the potential of dogs by transforming them into custom-trained, life-changing assistance dogs for people in need. The clients we serve live with disabilities like autism, traumatic brain injury (TBI), multiple sclerosis (MS), muscular dystrophy (MD), Down syndrome, cerebral palsy (CP), spinal cord injuries, and more. We also serve veterans with post-traumatic stress (PTS); however, we do not provide service dogs for non-military civilians diagnosed with PTS. FSD has been recognized nationally for its innovative approach and life-changing work.

Freedom Service Dogs was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization by Michael and PJ Roche. The Roches worked tirelessly to transform FSD from a local, two-person organization to one of the leading service dog training organizations in the country at a time when the assistance dog industry was in the early stages of development.

As FSD expanded, its leaders recognized a need for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to have additional support as they entered civilian life, leading to the launch of Operation Freedom, a program that provides custom-trained service dogs to veterans with disabilities.
