Congregation of Israel, a small synagogue located in the City of Detroit, is seeking an Office Assistant for a few hours each week (flexible schedule). Our diverse, cross generational multi-dimensional assembly of worship offers Shabbat and weekly services, Torah/Bible study, and is committed to the social justice. The Office Assistant will work closely with synagogue leadership, social justice staff, and others to ensure the successful operation and growth of our Congregation and community efforts.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Create and revise Microsoft Word/Office documents, filing, and handling mail.
  • Maintain the synagogue's calendar, and coordinate events including but not limited to Shabbat services, high holiday and other special events.
  • Contact and interact with members of the Congregation and community via email and phone.
  • Communicate with community partners, civic organizations, and government officials regarding various community projects including community food drives.
Ideal candidate will have volunteer and/or work experience in office environment and familiarity in synagogue or house of faith (church) would be plus. Also, must be personable and able to work with others.
