ORGANIZATION: OUR HOME BASE, Inc. DBA Home of Champions

  • 3 people are interested

This is a terrific opportunity to be on the Board or Advisory Board of an extraordinary organization that focuses on disconnected youth who want to be leaders and the best of themselves.
The State of New York is always seeking effective ways to help our youth get connected and back on their feet. Our project will help steer our New York youth towards economic property.

Home of Champions is incredibly unique in that the property contains the original boxing ring and training camp for world heavyweight champions: Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, and Ingmar Johansson. The best way to cultivate leadership and prepare the younger generation for future challenges is to develop the right character! We will continue the legacy of this historic property by working to emphasize the positive attributes of our youth, challenging them to match the World Champion boxers.

Mission Statement

Our Mission-We will identify potential future Leaders among disconnected foster youth and develop them to achieve their full potential as strong productive leaders and role models in Industry, Academia, The Arts and for Social and Political arenas. Our Vision-Disconnected and disadvantage youth with Leadership Potential can be cultivated to become productive community leaders. They need to be selected by appropriate evidence-based screening, and be nurtured by personalized mentorship and warm-but-challenging consistent sustainable environment.

Description

The Home of Champions is located in New Paltz, New York and serves New York State and New York City youth. We focus on youth who have transitioned out of foster care and have been accepted into college or vocational school on their own merit. This initiative is extremely important and timely: 18-24% of college-aged foster youth are enrolled in college in New York State, but less than 3 % graduate. The program strategically leverages our statewide partnership amoung colleges and social service organizaations and will ensure unprecedented levels of access to a consortium of businesses, mentors, academic insitutions and other experts. HOC will provide a challenging, supportive home base where foster youth will have access to opportunities, resources, and mentoring necessary for them to successfully cultivate their careers, leadership potential (with a change-maker and entrepreneurial focus) and independent living capabilities (tiny home workshops!) It is clear the forward-thinking HOC team's priority is to sufficiently prepare these youth for the ever-changing job market. HOC's on-property Learning Center will exisit to provide skill-development, tech education, and tangible resources for youth to build qualifications, find jobs, and nuture their career path.
