Volunteers visit hospice patients in their own homes. They could provide 'respite' care for the patient's caregiver, giving that much needed break so the caregiver can get away for just a few hours a week. Though Volunteers provide NO hands on care, they are a presence in the home so caregivers know the patient is safe while they are gone. Also, some patients live alone and the Volunteer is a much needed visitor for socialization and companionship. Volunteers may run errands for the patient or even help them with small chores including writing letters, filing and painting nails and multiple other things. Volunteers come from all walks of life, with differing ages, training and experiences. They provide compassion and emotional support during the 'final journey' of our patient's life.

Description
Hospice is a type of end of life care that gives 'palliative' care to patients which brings comfort and hope to the patient and their family. By easing or entirely removing physical, mental and spiritual anguish, patient's are able to focus on living and enjoying their loved ones in their final days. Hospice care is given in a patient's own home be it a private home or any type of live-in facility.
Volunteers are a part of that by being a helpful presence to the patient and their caregivers. Volunteers give NO physical hands-on care but they can help in a multiple of other ways.
Though office hours are from 8:30 to 5:30 pm. Monday through Friday, a skilled nurse answers every after hours call and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for patient visits as needed.
