ORGANIZATION: Hosparus Health

One in four dying Americans is a veteran, and we believe that every veteran deserves a peaceful ending. Hosparus Health offers comprehensive care for armed services veterans facing serious illness, as well as support for their families. We thank our veterans for their generous service to our country, and we are proud to care for thousands of veterans every year.

In order to continue providing compassionate care to our veterans, we have an urgent need for veterans of the armed services, spouses of veterans, and others with a longstanding connection to the military who want to honor and support our heroes. Upon admission to our care, we offer veterans a recognition visit by a trained volunteer who is also a veteran or supportive family member of a veteran. This is a one-time visit and is often arranged for the patient's loved ones to attend. The veteran in our care is presented a customized certificate of appreciation and a handmade patriotic care blanket.

If this is an honor you'd like to bestow upon a dying veteran, keep in mind that for each recognition visit, you will need to be able to stop by our office during business hours to pick up the certificate and blanket and have scheduling flexibility to coordinate presentation to the patient within a day or two of the request.

The zip code on this posting is a central location for the Louisville area - not always the location where services are provided. Our patients live throughout Louisville and surrounding counties and across Southern Indiana in nursing facilities and homes.

We serve patients wherever they call home - in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and in the patient's own home. You can visit with a patient in your neighborhood, nearby, or wherever you feel called to help. We have a particular need for volunteers who would be willing to make visits in Louisville's West End, the Dixie Highway corridor, and Bullitt County. A volunteer manager will work with your visit preferences and provide you with ongoing support. All costs for training, including the background check and TB tests, are covered by Hosparus Health.

If you're ready to get started, visit hosparushealth.org, and click on the volunteer tab to apply. Be sure to list on the application that you'd like to honor veterans.
