Join our team to help spread the joys of art and creative reuse! We offer plenty and sundry take-home volunteer project kits, as well as limited onsite volunteering sessions:
Take-home kits/Remote Volunteering:
Come visit our store to pick up a preassembled tote filled with materials to sort and package into youth and adult art and science crafting kits or that will go to replenish our shelves in the retail store.
- Take-Home Kit Pick-up: Email volunteer@cleveroctopus.org to schedule a day and time to stop by the shop Monday- Saturday 12:00 PM-6:00 PM.
- What to Bring: For your safety and per our COVID protocols, we ask all volunteers, please, to wear a mask when entering and while in the store.
- Take-home project: We have several kits to choose from based on material availability. Our current stock includes:
- Sorting and tagging a sacred Yarn bin
- Rolling fabulous fabric samples.
- Making Mystery Sticker Packs
- Assembling science craft kits for youth and seniors
- Craft with a Cause Project kit! I f you have a sewing machine and basic sewing skill s , help sew easy pencil pouches for the SLC School District, or reusable tote bags for unsheltered families and resettled refugees. We also have sewing machines available for use at our shop. Reach out to use onsite!
Onsite sessions:
Help organize our ever-growing inventory of clean salvaged crafting goods donated to us by the public and businesses! Requests to help at our inspiring warehouse are decided on a case-by-case basis. Please contact volunteer@cleveroctopus.orgfor more info. Please wear a mask and bring a water bottle.

Clever Octopus Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering creativity and environmental awareness through art, science, technology, engineering, and math. Our multitentacled approach includes the Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center and the Octopod mobile outreach vehicle.
Description
The Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center is a retail shop for high-quality art materials and industrial offcuts donated to us by local businesses, companies, industries, labs, and the public. We leverage the value of resources originally fated for the landfill and donate or resell these materials at affordable prices back to the community to creatively reimagine the purpose and value of these goods. In addition to offering a warehouse wonderland, we also design curricula and hands-on kits through our youth and adult education services featuring reclaimed craft supplies from our shop.
The Octopod mobile outreach vehicle is a fully equipped mobile classroom, stocked with a plethora of materials for creative exploration and staffed by Clever Octopus’ artists. The Octopod will host classes throughout the Salt Lake Valley and beyond when it visits schools, adult care facilities, residential treatment centers, community outreach programs, community festivals, and private events.
