MMCC Kitchen Aide Volunteer
Under the general supervision of the Health Services Coordinator and with guidance from the contracted
Nutritionist, and the Cook, the Assistant Cook/Kitchen Aide is responsible for assisting in the up-keep of
the kitchen, planning, food preparation, cooking, clean up, and service using standardized nutritious recipes
for children.

Responsibilities:

    • Assist in maintaining records of daily food used and foodservice temperatures.
       Assist in ordering and maintaining the inventory of kitchen supplies and foods with
      supporting personnel.
       Assists the cook in submitting the CACFP Food Productions.
       Assist with food preparation, safe handling, and temperature control for participants’ meals.
       Responsible for cleaning the equipment and utensils in work areas, including ovens, worktables,
      mixing and slicing machines, and refrigerators/freezers in the absence of the porter/dishwasher.
      Also included are; dining room, storeroom, closets areas.
    • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 15+ pounds
  • Must be 16+ years old to apply
  • A positive, friendly, and non-judgmental approach
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a huge plus, but it's okay if you are not fluent
  • The candidate must possess a valid Food Handlers Protection Certificate issued by the N.Y.C.
    Department of Health. Basic ability to read, write and understand English, with simple arithmetic skills
    necessary for inventory and record keeping. Excellent health, ability to stand long hours, and ability to lift heavy objects.

Day & Time Commitment:

  • Monday - Fridays
    Shifts: 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • You do not need to stay there from 8-4. Please inform me when you'd like to volunteer and for how long and that will be considered your shift.


Training Required:
Valid Food Handlers Protection Certificate issued by the N.Y.C. Department of Health. Attending a virtual volunteer orientation session, and a background check if you are 18+.

Description

Our story begins in 1942 when a few MMCC programs were run from a storefront on Gun Hill Road, basements on Wayne Avenue, and rented rooms in a local school. In 1958, the main building was built and the programs were expanded to meet the needs of the community annually serving 35,000 Bronx and Manhattan individuals and families of all ages.
