Looking to hone your hospitality skills? Pick a destination you would enjoy visiting for a day-long trip and have the Friends come along. As coordinator for our travel program, you could introduce your neighbors to museums, historical landmarks, literary sites, performing art and entertainment venues, or even nearby festivals with a motorcoach trip. Our tour operator will ensure that everyone has a memorable and safe journey together, but you get the wheels rolling. If you have a passion for travel and would love to shepherd a group of companionable travelers on a fun adventure, you’re our person!

About FRIENDS OF THE MECHANICVILLE DISTRICT PUBLIC LIBRARY

Location:

190 N MAIN ST, MECHANICVILLE, NY 12118, US

Mission Statement

The Friends of the MDPL shall act as a bridge to the community by: increasing public awareness of, focusing attention on, and expanding the use of the MDPL; supporting the Freedom to Read as expressed in the American Library Association’s Bill of Rights; cooperating with the library in developing, maintaining, and enhancing facilities, resources, and services for the public; initiating, organizing, promoting, and encouraging cultural and educational activities; procuring gifts, endowments, and bequests for the benefit of the MDPL, as well as raising funds for library materials and activities.

Description

The Friends of the Mechanicville District Public Library play an important role in the success of the library. The library was established by public referendum in 1966 to serve the community of 5200 residents which is on the eastern border of Saratoga County, north of Albany NY. Volunteers raise funds for projects and library acquisitions above and beyond the library’s general operating budget. The Friends fundraisers have included a garage sale, motorcoach trips, and a tea in the style of Downton Abbey. Projects have included "Build A Bear" events, the "Books for Babies" program, and underwriting annual subscriptions for museum passes for the community to borrow with a library card. There are two types of Friends members: contributing members who support the library through an annual monetary donation and active members who serve as group officers or volunteer for committee assignments to carry out the group’s projects. Membership dues start at just $10 a year for an individual and $25 for a family membership. The Friends are a nonprofit charity; donations are tax deductible. Your membership and ideas will help us increase public awareness of the Mechanicville District Public Library. Contributions benefit new library services for the public and promote cultural and educational activities organized by the Friends. Giving your time and talents, even an hour or two per month, will help the library grow its offerings to the Mechanicville community.
