Senior Web Developer (Volunteer)

Note : The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work to address climate change. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. A 6 months commitment is preferred. This is a remote-from-home position.

Are you an experienced web developer with team leadership experience? Do you want to make a difference in the climate crisis? Are you motivated by working with smart and talented individuals who are creating a better world? Can you commit approximately 7 - 10 hours a week, working remotely on your own schedule with our far-flung, diverse team? If so, we would love to chat about your help and unique talents.

Earth Hero is a global all-volunteer nonprofit organization with users in 153 countries. We exist to make it easy to act on climate change. The climate emergency we currently face requires adequate and immediate action. It is one of the most threatening crises of our time. We are looking for action-oriented individuals who are excited to address climate change. As a startup, we are looking for people who will help build and scale our impact and at the same time are willing to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done! Responsibilities

• Play a central role in the web development team
• Provide guidance and organization to the web development team.
• Improve the current basic Earth Hero website, while working with other developers and the ui/ux designers.
• Help lead creation of the web app version of Earth Hero, complementing the mobile app version.
• Improve processes and tools to increase team effectiveness.

Experiences useful in this role

• 5+ years of website development experience.
• Leading a team of developers, including coordinating different tasks and reviewing work.
• React + Gatsby knowledge.
• Firebase or similar NoSQL databases is a bonus.
• A creative mind and an eye for design details.
• Ability to take initiative, learn new things, and apply them.
• Good communication skills, time management, and attention to detail and to partners are key attributes in this role.
• Previous experience collaborating with a team remotely, particularly across time zones is a plus.

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule. Roles work best with a minimum commitment of 6 months for 7 - 10 hours a week (or more if you like!). Because our all-volunteer team is spread throughout the world, we rely mostly on a combination of Slack, Github, and video calls to communicate.

If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, have strong collaboration skills, enjoy the opportunity to partner with like-minded individuals, and can commit quality time per week to help achieve team goals, we would love to hear from you.
