Haircuts for Hospice Patients
ORGANIZATION: UnityPoint at Home Hospice
Please visit the new page to apply.
Can a simple hair cut help add dignity and joy to someone nearing the end of life's journey? You bet! If you are a licensed hairstylist, you know how a hair cut can be a complete transformation. For someone in Hospice, a hair cut can make the difference of a nasal canula fitting properly or receiving a trim after months of not leaving the home because of a medical condition. If you would like to be part of making an impact for someone nearing the end of their journey, please consider volunteering for Hospice. We will provide an orientation and training to Hospice, an aide or nurse during the visit to cut the patient's hair, and any tools needed. Days and times are flexible. 1 to 3 patients/month. Des Moines area.

Description
UnityPoint Hospice volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice care team. Volunteers can provide direct and indirect patient support. Direct support includes: bedside companionship, respite care for the family, patient life review, supportive phone calls, letter writing to the patient, hand massage, listening to music, playing a musical instrument, pet therapy. Indirect support includes: running errands, greeting and screening visitors at Taylor House, administrative tasks, answering phones, etc. We work with each volunteer to help determine the right fit and area in which to help.
