Partners in English Language Learning

Partners in English Language Learning (PiELL) us a local nonprofit that recruits and trains volunteers to tutor adults in the English language (English as a Second Language).

PiELL is looking for a volunteer to be one of several volunteers who perform new student evaluations, and to chair the Intake Committee which is responsible for evaluating all potential new students. Currently there are 3 intake evaluators including the chair. The chair is responsible for contacting the other evaluators and sending them information on new students so they can be contacted to schedule evaluations. After evaluations are completed, the evaluators send copies to the PiELL office and to the Intake Chair. Chair maintains a spreadsheet to keep track of evaluations so the Board can be apprised of numbers of evaluations completed and demographic data such as country of origin, native language and English level.

Current chair will train. Some knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not absolutely necessary. Covid vaccination completion is now mandatory for students, tutors and evaluators.

Intake evaluators normally each do about 1 to 2 evaluations a month. Meetings with prospective students take about 1 hour and the written evaluation takes approximately 1.5 hours.

To apply for this position contact our Program Coordinator at 265-2116.
