Public Health Intern/Volunteer

Family Centers Healthcare seeks an energetic, compassionate, and ambitious individual interested in going into Public Health or Health Care Administration. Intern would have the opportunity to work within a Community Health Center and School Based Health Center and performing a variety of different outreach in the community. Family Centers is a non-profit organization offering health care, education and human services to children, adults, and families living in Lower Fairfield County. The health centers provide primary healthcare, dental and mental health services to those living in Greenwich and Stamford Public Housing communities and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answer telephone provides information to callers, routes calls as appropriate, take clear & concise messages and contacts appropriate staff to promote effective communications.
  • Referral follow up, connecting with specialist and scheduling appointment
  • Community outreach - Grassroots marketing, tabling events, door to door knocking, meeting community partners at other events
  • Setting up outreach kits for events
  • Assist in creating marketing materials (flyers, newsletters)
  • Distributing information in the community (Greenwich, Stamford)
  • Administrative task with front desk and outreach team
  • Participating in outreach events and partnering with other agency programs
  • QA/QI projects (communication, referrals, resource access, quality control logging)
  • Greets and checks in patients and assists them in accessing services in a timely manner
  • Requests and verifies all demographic information as well as insurance information including authorization and precertification.
  • Assisting Patient/Community Advisory Groups
  • Sets up meetings as requested, arranging for appropriate equipment and refreshments as necessary.
  • Initiates follow-up calls as necessary and gathers information for meetings to assure a well-organized event.
  • Files and scans documents in order to maintain complete records regarding patients and office operations.
  • Contacts and complete work orders for the IT and facilities department
  • Assist in distributing surveys and assessments
  • Demonstrates professional, courteous, and respectful attitude during interactions with patients and guests of the health center.
  • Attends all training and outreach events
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Health & Substance Misuse Educator, and Health Center Manager

Required Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual required (Spanish) and Haitian Creole is a plus
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Interested to learn Medical terminology and outreach marketing practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including typing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and to deal calmly with individuals under
  • Require transportation and driver’s license
  • Multitaskers and flexibility with assignments
  • Need some Weekend Availability
