Pivedite is looking for a Program Director to run our programs and to help us grow the organization. This is a non-paid position but it may turn into a paid position.

This is an excellent opportunity if you want to:

  1. Volunteer for an organization that wants to end social problems in Philadelphia.
  2. Communicate your ideas on how to end social problems.
  3. Work on a new and exciting project for social change.
  4. Use your journalism and/or website skills for social change.
  5. Learn what it takes to run a startup nonprofit organization.
  6. Gain more experience for a job in Public Service, the Nonprofit Sector, or Social Entrepreneurship.
  7. Help a small nonprofit organization grow

Who are we?

Pivedite is a 501c3 nonprofit journalism organization. Our mission is to inform the Philadelphia Region about pivotal solutions to social problems and to encourage expedited action to end those problems.

Our name was created by combining the words pivotal and expedite, and our tagline is "pivotal solutions expedited."

We launched on February 3, 2020.

What do we do?

The type of journalism we produce is called "solutions journalism". Writers and organizations who produce "solutions journalism" provide the public with answers and solutions to social problems. We report on solutions to 10 social problems in Philadelphia. These problems are listed on our website.

Our content will highlight any news story, idea, opinion, policy, service, organization, individual, or government action that attempts to end these social problems in Philadelphia.

Our content is reported through:

  • A Community Journalism Platform that is open to anyone who wants to be a volunteer writer
  • Articles from professional writers and our President
  • Social media posts

In addition to our content, we are openly challenging the Philadelphia Region to end these 10 problems on a system level or on an individual level.

Duties

  • Manage and support our writers
  • Manage our "Challenge Campaign"
  • Review, edit, and post all articles for our website
  • Provide updates to social media, website, and blog content
  • Manage our social media accounts
  • Recruit new volunteers/staff
  • Send marketing and general update emails to our followers
  • Assist with or run various marketing/outreach efforts
  • Manage our organizational email address
  • Help maintain organizational documents/records and assist with administrative tasks, as needed
  • Write content for our blog and articles, if needed
  • Develop relationships with community members, our board, and various stakeholders
  • Attend events to network and promote the organization
  • Speak publicly on behalf of the organization, if needed
  • Provide ideas on how to grow the organization and implement the idea when approved
  • Help develop the organization’s strategic plan
  • Assist with other organizational operations as needed

Qualifications

  • Experienced writer, journalist, student studying journalism/communications, or nonprofit leader
  • Expertise, experience, or willingness to learn how to manage/develop a website
  • Experience with marketing campaigns or have plenty of marketing ideas
  • Experience with using social media for work projects, have extensive knowledge, or willingness to learn advanced social media skills
  • Some program management experience is nice but not required
  • Experience volunteering with nonprofit organizations or community organizing is nice but not required
  • Desire to make social change in Philadelphia and around the country.
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent written communication
  • Creativity
  • Willingness to learn, be a team player, and take charge
