Volunteer Services Screening Team Member
The Red Cross screens volunteers to ensure there is a mutually beneficial relationship between the organization and the volunteer. Through dialogue and conversation, Screening Team Members can begin to build the Red Cross relationship with volunteers by setting expectations and learning about volunteer motivations, skills, availability and interests to identify the most appropriate position(s). A successful screening process results in matching the volunteer with a position that aligns the needs of the organization with the time, talents and interests of the volunteer.
Key Responsibilities
Screening Team Members seek to understand what brought volunteers to the Red Cross, their areas of interest and what position they would find most meaningful. They use their understanding of the volunteer and match it with the needs of the organization.
- Schedules and conducts volunteer interviews over the phone with prospective volunteers
- Prepares for screening interviews following standardized training protocol
- Matches volunteers to positions for which they are best suited, based on skills, interest, availability and available options
- Provides prospective volunteers with information about the intake, referral and placement process
- Updates Volunteer Connection, our online volunteer management system, with candidate information and makes referrals as required
- Comfortable with conducting interviews via phone
- Strong interview and assessment skills with a love of working with people, processes and metrics
- Active listening skills and the ability to guide conversations with diplomacy
- Comfortable using your own cellphone number if working virtually (Number can be hidden). Can also use office phone when not working virtually.
- Strong computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfortable with self-direction, working independently and collaborating with teams
- Strong decision-making skills
