Have a desire to create joy and meaning through making art?

LiveWell is excited to continue to offer this creative and innovative art program to support persons living with dementia on our campus at 1261 South Main St. Plantsville CT.

December 6, 2021 12:30pm-4:30pm
January 5th, 2022 12:30-4:40pm


Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) is an award-winning evidence-based intergenerational art making program developed at Miami University. LiveWell has been hosting OMA since 2018 on our campus and excited to invite volunteers once again to our campus over the summer months to engage in art making.

We are looking for volunteers
  • In person
  • Engage one on one with individuals living with dementia
  • One-hour classes on Mondays 9:15am and 1:30pm and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm for 7 week sessions ongoing.
  • You must show proof of vaccination as we are a healthcare facility.
We paused this program during the pandemic and are very excited to bring students/ adults and individuals living with dementia together!

The LiveWell Dementia Specialists- partnering with people to provide services that improve the lives of people impacted by dementia. The LiveWell Institute- Transforming communities through education, though leadership and advocacy to advance the well-being and inclusion of people as they age.

Description

LiveWell (formerly The Alzheimer’s Resource Center of Connecticut) is a pioneer in social change, transforming the way people living with dementia are viewed, engaged, and supported. As a mission driven nonprofit organization they have created innovative practices that support the well-being and resiliency of people living with dementia, their families, and professionals that work with them. LiveWell provides residential living at their campus in Southington and resources and supports throughout Connecticut. They are also sought out nationally and internationally for their professional consulting. LiveWell is helping to champion dementia friendly communities in Connecticut visit www.dementiafriendsct.org.

We currently serve 135 individuals living with cognitive change on our campus in assisted living and skilled nursing.

  • Must be at least 16
  • Orientation or Training
  • Volunteer orientation is 4 hours. An additional 4 hours over the next year of education about dementia. Classes are an hour long, once per week for 7 weeks.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, wearing a mask we provide.
