Earth Viability Center is developing tools that local groups (citizens, scientists, and policy makers) can use to help heal their corner of the world, e.g., river health, ecosystem health, ocean health, etc.

The Virtual Community Center is a new type of web-based platform designed to support interactions and learning among activists, scientists, and policy makers such that these groups will have a better chance of understanding the systemic nature of these issues and therefore will be better equipped to develop ecologically sound policies.

The River Systems Project is developing tools to help local activists to restore their rivers to a healthy state. These tools use the best available scientific knowledge to produce results for understanding river health and how river health interacts with plants, animals, and topography and especially how river health is impacted by human activities. The tools provide easy to understand graphs of changes in river health over time and simulation models that support exploration of alternative policy choices.

Citizen science will also be part of the project, for example, citizen monitoring of variables such as plastics in the river or location of human activities where buffers are needed and could be created.

River stories are also important. These are best created via locals writing about and photographing their river. The stories should include text as well as embedded phots and videos. Eventually the stories will include embedded simulation models. Our web sites are:
